S! all,
Just thought I would post that we are beginning work on the next GG mod:
American Civil War - Total War.
It is still in the early planning stages; for example, are we going to have two factions, North and South, or maybe more factions, each a specific army (Army of the Potomac, Army of Northern Virginia, etc.)
Units will most likely be divided up by states, and the mod will include units like sharpshooters and such.
Graphics are the big hurdle, but we should have something ingame within a week or two.
Ladies and Gents, please feel free to post any ideas or suggestions for the mod you may have here; we are still very early in planning, and we are certainly open to ideas!
Salute!

As for maps I guess the generic maps we have created for AWI will work equally well with ACW. Historical maps I gues are best divided into smaller parts, e.g. just the area around Little Round Top instead of the whole Gettysburg battlefield. Or maybe not? [GG]vD

And I think natives are in Horseback during this time, and i think only the conf used them. used them aswell as a ambush unit.

*cough* The Civil War just happens to be my specialty! ;D I actually know quite a bit about the armies, soldiers, MAPS, arms, etc and can help with the historical aspect of things (I know SQUAT about modding, sorry). I can also help with maps (I could probably do them from memory! ;D ) IM me, Ash, if you're interested.

Natives?! No no no, no natives in the American Civil War! Maybe the Sharpshooters will have the hide ability, but we will see, I think the ACW mod will be more NTW like in its gameplay. Keep the ideas coming! Ash

Confederate Cav should have better stats than Union Cav
Union arty should have better stats than Confederate arty
Most AMC inf should have Napoleonic "light infantry" stats (most AMC soldiers were a little faster, and could shoot farther with their enfields and springfields)
inf for both sides should be more or less the same
Could include Hoods Texans, the Iron Brigade, Louisiana Tigers, Virginians, Burdans Rifles, etc as "elite" units with better stats than the rest....
no light inf, only rifle units.....
could mod different units for several union and confederate states.....
will post more ideas later! ;D

I'd say keep it simple, at least for the first few betas...North/South.
There WERE a few musket armed troops in the south, but probably too few to worry about.

I believe that rifled muskets were the standard weapon... rifles were more rare. Also, unfortunately for me, I think it is easier to begin with a bunch of different factions and just do that part right rather than start as two factions and then have to redo with a bunch more. That entails a lot of reworking! Ash

Why not? Native americans contributed to the wars. Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole nations allied with the Confederate States of America. And many of the same tribes splited up joined the union, and during this time some Native Americans on both sides used this opportunity to settle scores by burning homes, destroying crops, slaughtering livestock, and killing their enemies. Eh, I hate to say but the native contribution as far as I know was VERY small. Having studied the Civil War for as many years as I have, I have really never seen any reference to their contributions:) Sorry!

You know, some trenches would be nice. a small town defense with no walls and the only thing to prevent urban combat is a trench infront of the town entrance. Also if you're putting in the sherman artillery make it high powered and innaccurate

Sadly trenches are not possible to make with the map editor. It is after all actually a medieval game so what you can do with the maps is sort of limited by that. Real hedges and fences are not possible to create either. There is the palisade model, but you can't fire through that so it's really no good either. We will have to stick with the kind of maps we've made so far for NTW and AWI - fields, woods, gulleys, hills and the occasional building/small village (AI navigation in larger villages/towns SUCKS!!!). The map editor is unfortunately far from ideal when it comes to NTW, AWI, ACW maps. [GG]vD

*laugh* I am sorry, I know they are enjoyable to use! The Iron Brigade should be fun, however...
