Gentlemen
As some of you may know certain parties of ill repute and dubious character have been quietly beavering away on the project known as The 1809 Society. We are pleased to announce the completion of phase 1.
( Quite what phase 2 is we are yet undecided but it sounds impressive.) Basically its for those amongst us with an interest in the historical side of Napoleonic gaming and is built around the exceptional achievements of the designers of NTW. At its core is a library of historical battles. Each one consists of accurate and extensively researched OB's scaled down to NTW size commands. The actions are fought on maps devised in the main by Napman who, although lacking in any other talent, has produced superb replicas of major battlefields. The maps are purposely big. The idea being that commanders are able to incorporate manouevre and tactics in to their play as opposed to the usual battles of attrition. Each pre set battle comes with a summary outlining the action and suggests objectives. The whole package for each action is zipped up in a file that can be downloaded by clicking the appropriate graphic.
Actions vary from large 4 v 4 affairs like Wagram and Waterloo to smaller yet equally demanding events like Malojaroslavets designed as a 2 v 2. For those who would prefer a non ' set piece' yet accurate action we have also designed a number of modular ' brigade' type commands, each one suitable for one player , that can be 'plugged' together to allow anything from a 1 v 1 to a 4 v 4 on any NTW map.
The intention is to add more actions to the library at a regular rate. We start with six with another, Lieberwolkwitz , almost complete.
In addition we have incorporated articles, guidelines for play and of course, a forum.
We should like to emphasise that 1809 is totally independent of any clan, is the property of all it's members and open to any who have an interest in the period. We would welcome seeing you all there and hope that our humble efforts result in some entertaining games for all NTW enthusiasts.
