I just started playing NTW2 MP again. In the LoV ladder/league.
It's worth a go, there are a few "honorable" rules that make the game playable.
If in a formation deeper than 4 line, fire at will must be turned off
If in melee then fire at will must be turned off
Guard mode is meant to be turned off but not compulsory.
Gain 200 florins if you lose. Minus 200 florins if you win. That way better players have less money and worse players stand a chance. (one guy had 6800 florins last night, the base you start with is 10000)
Well so far it has rekindled my interest. Not really clan matches going on although some clans still exist.

Hey Tunc
Some interesting rules there, how come the fire at will is turned off, are units firing through each other again?
How much money are you on?

LOL 10400 now, not good, but I am rusty.
Units don't fire through each other as such, but any troops in a unit that is engaged in melee and are not actually scrapping themselves can fire. This is very bad with guard mode on as they do not break formation. It seems to work and be a bit more realistic. You imagine a standard line of 3 rows. If the first row are engaged in the honorable sport of trying to disembowel the enemy with bayonets, the two rows behind are not going to be firing through the front row. As much chance of killing their own if they did. I suppose some would fire but not 2/3 of a unit. Seems the best that can be done with the engine.

10400...carry on like that and you will be rich soon ;D
I hear you about the lines and the firing, after all if there is going to be disembowelling going on, best let them get on with it with a little peace and quiet
