4lb batteries vs 8/12lb batteries

I enjoy the battery rule, but for the EA patch I wanted to propose the idea that a 4lb battery consist of ONLY a 4lb gun unit, whereas an 8 or 12lb battery would consist of the gun and also a unit of cannister. The 4lb guns move so fast they leave their cannister behind, and I also thing the smaller size of just one unit seems to match up well with the idea of horse arty.

I love it...ideal Horse artillery... and a varient of the Battery rule we have been trying is 2 4 pdr batteries which seems to work well.

They move fast and can cause mayhem, rather than long drawn out arty duels, these are more useful for quick raids.

Hm, I personally think that 2 4lb guns might be a bit much maybe? That seems like much more useful than a 12lb and a cannister piece...? After all, you have 2 pieces which can quickly be moved to new locations to make use of enfilading fire? Or am I crazy?

We played with 2 4 pdrs as Salis said but IMO it was a bit too much. Because of it's speed and ability to move to the flanks etc. one 4pdr should equal one battery. The added benefit of "just" taking one 4pdr is of course you get 1 more other units as cav or inf.

I agree - 1 4pdr shoudl constitute a battery, as Von and Salis said, they played a few battles with this idea, where I, and Zimoa, were unfortunate to be on the receiving end, they caused mayhem thats for sure, a little to powerful for what theyre meant to represent, i think they either need their range shorted or only one is a battery

If the range of the 4 pdr's were to be shortened but their speed increased in the MP patch as the speed is now in the EA patch I think it would be a far trade off. I must say I think the 4 pdr galloper guns is my favourite unit in the EA patch. They ROCK!
