Good evening,
The battle of Hortance, a very close battle, was declared a French victory tonight. Despite having one flank collapse, the French (Ashram, Hitman_m4, and AndrewKent) managed to hold off the Allied forces (ThinRedLine, Irish Brigadier, Van Doblen, and Salis de Silver) and finally see them off the field. The English and especially the Dutch, under General Van Doblen, fought bravely, returning to the bloody combat over and over, with the fight finally coming down to two tattered units of Dutch infantry facing off against a single unit of Old Guard. The Guard finally saw the Dutch off, securing the French artillery for the next battle.
The battle of Canard Valley was declared an Allied victory tonight. The Allies (Von Doblen, TRL, and Irish Brigadier) managed to sweep the right flank of the French (Ashram, Hitman_m4, and AndrewKent) and come up through the woods along the valley's edge. The last French regiments on the far right finally withdrew from the field when they realized they were outnumbered and flanked.
The French managed to secure very tight victories in the first two battles, but the Allies stormed back strong in Canard Valley. The two sides, having each managed to claim their share of victories, have begun to bring to line the main elements of their armies. The leaves have fallen from the trees of the lush French countryside, and the cold winter winds are beginning to creep down the valleys. 1816 is upon us, and if the previous year's experiences have shown us anything, we know the killing will become close and intimate in the new year.
The battles were tight, and the battlefields, arranged primarily by Von Doblen, were beautiful. I hope all had a good time. I'm glad we all now have new maps to play across!
Please keep your eyes open; your orders for the next battle of the European War will be arriving by courier in the next day or two.
