Hey im kind of a new guy in these parts and im hoping some of you are getting to know me and enjoying my input into soem of the MP NTW games. Thus far I havent really settled on a favourite MP nation and i was just wondering what people feel the stregths are of the main factions available and which faction i should use from now on. Of course its obvious that the French Old Guard are the best guard giving those who play as France a distinct advantage, although im bored of winning just because i am able to have the Old Guard as a reserve. Any replies and obinions on this matter would be appreciated!

Hello OJ, Welcome. You may remember me as SHull of the USN. here I have alittle more sway.... Of Course this is really going to be up to you, but the four strongest are GB, Prussia, France and Russia. Russia being the more difficult to master as a good deal of their strength is Cav based. GB and France are probably the easiest to get on with in the beginning as they are pretty forgiving armies. Prussia can be a very lethal Combination of Good Trustworthy Inf and Rifles as well as good Cav. Again you will figure this out for yourself, but many of us who have played these factions for awhile now are starting to have fun playing more games with the "lesser" factions. Some work is still left to do on more balance for cost to value ratio in MP so the 4 I mentioned really are the best base armies in MP. S! TRL

okay OJ...wish I saw this sooner...
since your still a new guy you can grow into a very strong player and I would do that by playing a lesser Major Faction like the Russians, Prussians, or as a Minor faction like the Austrians...
I wouldent go French or British because they are both addictive and really require no skill...ive played as a total idiot with the French and British in some MP games and still won...for example...a unit of Old guard fighting 5 cav for two minutes while I moved around to flank them with French Guard Lancers...funniest stuff I had ever seen...or the time where three highlanders...maybe 200 men routed 2 prussian line and 2 prussian grenadiers lol
now what is cool to see is when a unit of Jedid Ziam errr whatever the turkish line unit is called routs off some highlanders lol...man that was so funny and a stuff in the face ;D
thats my opinion OJ
but this is fact
there are alot of British and French players out there...and some cannot adjust or play really well as a lesser faction...kind of like a handicap

And just what is wrong with 3 Highland units routing 4 Prussian ones?
Highlander Regiments are actually weaker in this game than they were during the Napoleonic period, but what are you gonna do?
With ppl always focussing on winning, you will have nothing but Russian Cossack Lancers, Highlanders, Guard, Grenadiers, Guard Jaegers and Old Guard etc., etc., etc.
We all do it...lol

I think what TRL is saying has less to do with a video game and more to do with the actual HISTORY of it; the Highlanders were NASTY in close combat, and were very famous for it. You should know that already, Flip.
I prefer British and French factions myself when it comes to the majors, simply because those are the ones I am most familiar with through my readings, although the Russians are a lot of fun as well simply because they are different. I think the most important thing to do is start by just focusing on ONE faction; any of the majors is fine. Then, get the unit stats and really sit down and analyze them in comparison to each other and to other faction units. Play a bunch of games, testing your factions units and getting used to them. Once you have a single faction under your belt, it is easier to start to learn about the others.
