Ashram link=board=Glory&thread=1104312253&start=10#0 date=1104434205]And yes, it does seem like 8lb guns are way more effective than 12lb guns in this game. Is this just my perception? Or can it be backed up by numbers? Ash
The 12 pdr is slightly better according to the stats - longer range, same killzone and killchance but penetrates trees etc. I know many say that 8 pdr is better, but maybe that's because they need to be a bit closer so they are a bit more accurate than 12 pdr on max range? I don't know. [GG]vD

Just my 2 cents here, but I remember several times having my and my allies 8#'s completely clobbered by 1 set of 12# who had the height advantage, AK can attest to that.
Also, I have had 8#'s totally chewed by 12#'s of equal Valour, 2 's they were. I think timing and positioning and who spots who first for first volley has a lot to do with it.
Okay, where's my change?

yes that must be...the FIRST SHOT advantage in the counter battery fight plays a big deal in it...becuase if you get the first shot and you take out 1-3 of his guns in the first shot...you might be screaming GAME OVER MAN!! by the fourth or fifth volley... heck tonight my 8 pounders took out some 12 pounders in only 6 shots I think...I had the first shot...and my first shot took out two of the enemies guns...I think I only lost one gun in that fight to...he had the height advantage to I think...it could have been even though... In my opinion i find this whole concept of when the battle begins each player is frantically trying to spot their opponents artillery to shell the hell out of it. Let's face it we're all guilty of it.
It might be an idea to rule anti arty engagements out all together that way the whole idea of taking artillery onto the battlefield isn't undermined and the battery rule may see more success.

Although a neat Idea and all, I don't think I'd be fighting anymore if it was implemented. Its one thing to be able to kill the enemy's artilllery, its quite another to purposefully let them live so that they can rip massive gouges into your lines. Seriously, if I couldn't target enemy Artillery, and the enemy couldn't target mine, there'd be a field-day of close up artillery firing into the infantry. It'd just be insane.

That may be true, but let us not forget cavalry and infantry taking out guns.
Happens all the time and it really just depends on how much someone is paying close enough attention.
I have on several occasions been concentrating somewhere else for what seemed like only a few second, only to find, to my horror, that I had allowed my arty to be taken out by some Hussars!

Yeah except that almost every fight I have been in as the attacker, the map has been insanely small, and the defenders had wedged themselves in the corner, with their artillery protected on a small bump by two-three Battalions of Infantry.
I rarely get the opportunity to take out the enemy artillery unless I either use my artillery, or completed sacrifice my Brigade to breach their line and take their guns, which never works because I rarely get the support I need to do an action like that anyways.

err...isnt that the whole point of a battle - good deployment of infantry, cavalry and artillery - why would i deploy my artillery in a spot where you can just waltz up and kill, of couse im gonan put it somewhere hard for u to kill it, of course im gonna protect it with infantry, of course im gonna use it to blow the shite out of your lines.....

Exactly my point, if I can't use my Artillery to knock out your Artillery, then an attack is suicidle, and were I truly in Command of real people in that situation I'd withdraw!

I was asking about this the other day - how exactly is valour added in this way?
FlippyXtrem link=board=Glory&thread=1104312253&start=0#0 date=1104312253]I have been giving arty valour for quite awhile now...the reason I do this is...it makes the arty more accurate...
I was asking about this the other day - how exactly is valour added in this way? When your picking units there are three options above: valour, weapons and armour, simply click on increase valour.

Thanks, I was wondering the other day why the other chaps 8pdr battery was smearing my 12 pdr at extreme range (for the 8 pdr). Now I know he had a higher valour for his cannons!
