S! all,
I am happy to announce the availablity of the Beta .5 of the new Grenadier Guards mod for Napoleonic Total War...
American War for Independence - Total War.
WHAT THIS MOD DOES:
Adds a new era for MP and SP Custom games, AWI-TW. Adds three factions, each with a full compliment of units. Adds new colors, shields, and flags. Adds new maps, both historical and generic, under the [AWI-TW] label. Adds new unit commander names. Replaces music with appropriate music.
WHAT WILL CHANGE BETWEEN THIS VERSION, .5 AND THE FINAL VERSION 1
We hope to use this version .5 as a largescale test bed. Most of the work is done. All we want is to hear from you all about what might need further tweaking, especially as we have only been able to playtest in small games. Along with another major balance based on player input, we will be adding a unit graphic or two to V1, a few more historical maps, some new sound effects, load screens, and some of the other "eyecandy."
REQUIREMENTS:
For now, the install might take a few steps, but don't worry, they are VERY simple. As a person who doesn't know his C: drive from his E: drive, don't worry, it isn't bad:)
You must have an install of Napoleonic Total War to play this game. PLEASE UNDERSTAND that installing this mod will make your version of Napoleonic Total War UNPLAYABLE, in the same way NTW made MTW unplayable.
THEREFORE YOU MUST MAKE A SEPERATE COPY OF NTW upon which you can install your AWI-TW mod. This is easily done by right clicking your original NTW folder, copying, and pasting a new one in a new folder.
INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL:
*For now,* in order to recieve the mod you should email me at grenadierguardscampaigns@yahoo.com with a request for the mod. I will then email you the mod zipped. If your email cannot accept this zip, we have an alternate plan already in place we can use for those cases.
The mod will consist of two zip files. You will need Winzip (http://www.interpages.co.uk/pkzipage/) to unzip them.
First, unzip the file "Medieval - Total War" zip. You should run Winzip and choose to "extract" this folder to your NTW installation. IN MOST COMPUTERS, this will be to the following place:
C:\Programs\Total War
Please note, you do NOT unzip to C:\Programs\Total War\Medieval - Total War. If you do this by accident, you unzipped one file too deep; just unzip again in the correct place!
If for some reason you changed the names of your folders where you have NTW installed, for this install try to change them back to the title above so the mod will install easily. You can then change them back after installing.
When unzipping, prompt the computer to overwrite all.
THEN, after unzipping the first file, you can look at the second file. This second file is the MUSIC for the game. Create a new folder on your desktop or any other easy to access space. Unzip the contents of the MUSIC file to this folder. You will see about 12 MP3 tracks. If you know how to convert these to WAV files, do that.
If not, I have included IN the file a converter. Just unzip that program and install it. After installing, you can simply select the MP3 files in your folder with a right click and you will see "extract to WAV" as an option; just go ahead and do that.
Now you will have two versions of each sound file in this new folder; the MP3 versions and the WAV versions. Simply select the WAV versions, copy them, and the paste them in your NTW directory in the following place:
C:\Programs\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Sounds\Music.
And that is it, you are ready to play.
If you have any troubles with this, please let me know. Installing stuff like this really scares me to death, and I would be happy to help anyone who needs it to the best of my ability. One note: pls dont post problems at the Lordz forums, as they are busy with NTW2 and are not an official part of this project. Also, we obviously cannot guarantee you against anything you might mess up on your own:)
FINALLY, THANKS:
First and foremost, thanks to the Lordz. Based heavily on their work, there is no way we could ever hope to offer this extension to the MTW experience without their support and HOURS of hard, hard work.
Also, thanks to the Guards who not only contributed work but also time with Beta testing. Special thanks to [GG] Von Doblen for his beautiful maps and [gg]TheAlmightyFork for his music.
