i'm going to wander around in the core game a bit and see what happens. at very high level dungeons, you get some crazy eq out of the treasure chests. I think we may have to think about tuning that a bit. One possibility could be a max amount any item can be enchanted, or at least ramping that enchant amount up logarithmically, instead of linearly.

ok, here's my latest character. I've been focusing on using magic as much as possible. So when I found a scroll of Smouldering Grasp, I quality enchanted it a couple of times and have been wandering around burning orcs and goblins to death. I have a nice +2 fiery spear as my backup weapon for when I run out of mana. It actually does more damage than the scroll, but I really want to stick with using magic to keep my lore moving up, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little damage.

I died, so I started a new guy... a thief in the service of the Lidless Eye! I've moved between being a straight up thief, a warrior-thief, and a thief-mage (as I am now.) In addition to my gear I have a pair of spell books that I use; a Book of Firebolt, and a Book of Noxious Fumes... I hit enemies with them one at a time to both light them on fire and poison them as they come at me. My hit points suck but I am getting decent, and thanks to me being human, my power is going up with no end in sight... I might not have the muscles of a troll or dwarf, or the lore of an elf, or the trickiness of a hobbit, but in the end, this is the time of Men!

i just keep dying tonight. I think i've run through 3 mages so far. sigh. here's the latest after I got wrecked by a goblin wolfrider. One cool thing: I was running along having no problems, and then all of a sudden this orc is giving me a really hard time. Turns out he had a demi-helm and a buckler, which was making him hard to hurt. It was a pretty cool example of the random eq feature adding to the gameplay coolness.

well, my best character yet just died. I had gotten so powerful I decided to wander around in the random dungeons; so I loaded the hub and headed down to level 25 of the core game. I was doing great, killing pretty much everything I ran across (with the exception a level 27 smaug and a level 25 Balrog...I just ran away from them without even starting a fight). What finally got me was a brutal combination of a Hill Troll Warlord followed by an Armored Hill Troll of Gorgoroth. The warlord was really tough, and he did a ton of damage with his Maul (which does poison damage in addition to bludgeon damage). I managed to kill him, but the hill troll picked up his maul and quickly realized it's a better weapon than the hammer he was using.
